Corn-rows gurl. . . enough said.

Last night my sister-in law megan gave me corn-rows. Which turned out pretty sweet, but hurt like a mother getting them done. I was going to go to the BYU-Idaho gym this morning with them in. I am sad to say I did not think pregnant, white woman with corn-rows would look very cool.

my 5 year old nephew Carter took this picture

This weekend was a fun one. I worked a little, relaxed a lot, and worked on baby projects (more to come on that later). After dinner Friday night the baby was kicking like crazy. I believe this one is going to be an active one. Every once in a while he would kick so hard you could see the bulge. I am feeling him more frequently and he is defiantly getting stronger.

Baby's room

So call me a design nerd, but I have developed my design concept for the baby's room.
I decided not to do any type of theme, and I took Candice Olson's advice when decorating baby's rooms. She explained that baby’s/kids toys are enough to make it look like a kids room. So use adult prints with kid colors. I wanted to play with textures, so by using the rough pallet, the woven basket and light fixture, and smooth silver as an accent I will create unity through variety. I’m still deciding on how I want the bedding to be, but I do want a large bold print.

Craft day

source

I did mine with brown hemp
Arianne and I decided to procrastinate our chores and we had a craft day. So we got on our bikes, and ventured to walmart, where we bought tacky glue, hemp string, and bouncy balls. We wrapped and wrapped. What stinks is we have to wait 3 days before deflating our balls to make sure the glue cures. I am making these to go over the baby's bright green changing table (that I will refinish one of these days). After we deflate our balls we'll re-pump them up and I will make a big one and she will make a medium one. After our fun craft day we decided we needed to have craft days at least twice a month.

It's a boy!

We had our 20 week ultra sound today. What an exciting day! Blake and I decided to invite mine and his mom. I loved having them there, because Blake does not show his excitement, so it was great to share in the excitement.

While our ultrasound tech was trying to get a good profile shot of the babe he kept moving around. I guess it completely flipped during the time she was trying to take measurements. We might have an energetic sucker on our hands. It was so nice to hear everything was healthy/normal.
After finding out it’s a boy I called/text everyone to let them know. My little sister Aubree was really hoping it was going to be a girl. So when I told the family everyone was really excited except for her. While we were hiking in Montana I asked her why she didn’t want me to have a boy. She said because boys are crazy. I said well I bet if we have a boy he will be cool. “Oh” she says “cool like Blake?” yep I said cool like Blake.

Here’s a funny story

I don’t know if it was because I was nervous/anxious, warm, or because I was laying on my back for so long, but during my ultra sound I started to get really dizzy, and then I started having hot flashes. Apparently I passed out for a few seconds. I wake up to my mom saying my name. I guess I was twitching, so she was really worried I was having a seizure. I was just fine, but I woke up saying I’m so embarrassed.

Why I'm excited for a boy. . .

I hear all about how fun it is to dress up girls. But, I am honestly so excited to have a little boy to play with. A little boy who will probably be a lot like his daddy. Which I am okay with, because I love his daddy a lot.

A day of golf

Holy moly. . . look how far I stick out my butt when I swing.

Anyone who knows Blake knows that next to me, golf is his love, sometimes addiction. The reason golf is so addicting to some people is because it is definitely a game against yourself. I am not as interested in golf as Blake, but I am trying to get better. This is a sport that you can play together non-competitively, so no hard feelings unless one person tries to help the other too much J. It is 2 hours of walking, talking, and the occasional “I don’t need help.”

Yesterday we went golfing with Blake’s grandma (I think she's 85). She was such a hoot. My favorite line of the day was when she was telling herself “watch the damn ball”. We had such a fun day with her and her friend Gladice. – I thought this was so sweet, she called Blake later that day, because she could not remember if she gave us a hug goodbye, we love you Grandma Davis.

Road Trip Through Montana

For my families vacation this summer we went on a road trip through Montana. Typically my ideal vacation is relaxing on the beach. It was fun to be with my family and see the beautiful sites. Our trip included visiting; Dillon, Glacier Peak, Logan Pass, Many Glaciers, Avalanche Pass, Kalispell, and Missoula.

Here is a funny story from the trip. . .

While driving through Flat lake Montana we were pulled over for speeding. What was worse was that we did not have our insurance card in the car, our license had expired by 3 months, and our left tail light was out. We were lucky when the nice local official let us off with only a $20 ticket.

What makes this story better is that the next day, we were literally 2 miles from our hotel in Missoula when we were pulled over again. What had happened was the road had tracks that Blake decided he needed to test with his low profile tires. So he was weaving in and out of the lines. Low and behold a cop just happened to be behind us when he tried his little experiment. Naturally the cop pulled us over for drunk driving. I was hoping the cop would make Blake walk on the lines, or say his ABC’s backwards, but when I asked the cop, he said they don’t do the ABC’s cause in Montana it’s hard for them even when they are sober. He let us off with a warning.

*a special thanks to my sister Mallory for being so good at getting pictures despite the complaints.

Dear Bump,

Right now I am 19 weeks along, wondering what and who you are. I get so excited every time I think of you, if you don’t believe me ask your dad he’ll tell you. When I am bored I like to put my head down to my chest and talk to you. Nothing that important, I just want to be sure that you know you are loved when you come here.

I was telling Blake yesterday that the highlight of my week is going on to that baby bump tracker, and seeing what you look like. Supposedly you are getting out of the weird alien stage and are looking more and more like a newborn. I would have to say that the highlight of my day is when I feel that little nudge of yours reminding me you are there.

Your dad is not as good at showing excitement as I am, but I can tell he is. He is always making sure I am okay, and comforts me when I have my hormonal freak outs. Without fail, every time I get up to go to the bathroom in the night, which is a lot, he asks if every things okay. He wants to give the both of us the best life.

What I really want to say is thank you for choosing us. You may get frustrated with us sometimes, but please know we will try our best. I am so thankful that our Heavenly Father gave us the opportunity to create life, and that we have the opportunity to be together for all eternity.
I love you so very much,

Mom

8 week ultra sound - right now you just look like a gummy bear.

There must have been something in the water

About two weeks after coming home from Mexico, (the day after mother’s day to be exact)  we found out that we were going to be blessed with life’s greatest gift, the opportunity to be parents. It is amazing the changes that have gone on. Physically, obviously, but mentally as well. My whole outlook on life seems to have completely altered. For Blake as well, the moment I showed him that stick of good news, I could see the wheels turning, like oh my goodness I am going to have to provide for my family. We are so thankful for this opportunity, and are so thankful for the water in Mexico.

We fell in love

This story takes place on a fine spring afternoon in a little restaurant Craigos. Me a hostess, and him a stucco worker. He came in for just a little buffet pizza, but oh did he get more. He was working on a job close to Craigos, so naturally he came to eat there twice in a row. When he came in the second time I was just trying to be friendly and told him that he came in enough I should just know his name. So he told me. I remember (Leighanne) his waitress came over to me and said . . .”That guy just asked if you were dating anyone, and I told him no, we’ll see if he leaves his number.” I said, “if he leaves his number I’m not calling him.”

He comes in again the next day. He walked over to the pasta counter and asked me what I was doing that weekend. Let me remind you that all I know about this guy is that A: his name was Blake. B: He worked construction. Let me paint a picture for you. Young man, with a full week beard, covered in stucco gunk, seems cocky, if he is asking a girl at a restaurant he does not even know out. I made up the amazing excuse that I was moving into my apartment. (good right, like saying I’m washing my hair). These white haired relief society ladies were basically saying, give the guy a chance. So I thought I would live on the wild side and say yes. Little did I know I am the wild one.

From the first get go we connected so well, something was different. That different something would be the best decision I have ever made.
