Flirty and Fun

I like my makeup natural and clean most of the time, but every once and a while I like to add a little extra to spice up my look. Whether it be for a date night, wedding, or just for fun. My secret, I add little fake eyelashes. Most of the time I will add two lashes to the ends of each of my eyes. For our anniversary I decided to go all out and I put about eight on each eye. The lashes only cost $3, and to me it's well worth it. Even if Blake can't tell I'm wearing them I feel extra pretty, and really when it comes down to it that is what really matters (am I right ladies?) ;-)

My friend who does makeup showed me how she put on fake eyelashes, these were the tips she gave me. . .
To Apply:  Put all the makeup on like normal including mascara. This is the secret she shared with me; you don't apply them to  your eyelid, you SET the lash on top of your real eyelashes. I dip the lash in a glue dot with tweezers and add. After, I let it dry for about 5 minutes, and I apply one more coat of mascara and add a little bit of eyeliner.
To Remove: Wash off with water (and I like to use baby shampoo).

PS. Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I am so thankful for the country that we live in, and the freedoms that are offered to everyone.
Have a Great Day!

Rocking Chair Slip Cover DIY

Before my friend Jessica moved to Boise she gave me her comfy rocking chair. She called it the “nursing chair” because it was perfectly fitted for nursing. You may be thinking, whatever that means?! But I tell you the chair you choose to nurse in is very important, because, especially when your baby is a newborn, you do a lot of sitting. My personal preference is one that I can easily fold my legs in and rock.

With furniture the most important part are the bones. Ask yourself when looking at furniture what the frame is made from? Or what kind of joints it has? Etc. This will determine whether the piece is going to last months or years. I noticed that besides this chair being super comfy it had great bones as well as the cushion was in good condition.

And here it is with the ottoman. . .

The ottoman obviously is not quite finished. I'm going to sew on velcro to the edge and glue to the underside and  velcro the cover to the bottom of the piece.

I bought my fabric at JoAnns in Utah back in October. It is upholstery fabric and was on sale. I think for the piping and the fabric, all and all it was $35.00. I bought 4 ½ yds which ended up being perfect, but did not give me any room for mistakes.

I started by tracing everything on newspaper. I bought a roll of newspaper for $5 (you can get at your local newspaper). This was very time consuming and probably the trickiest part. This is where you decide how you are going to piece the fabric together. Since I am very visually I drew out how I thought it should be done.

This is what my sewing station looked like. You do what you gotta do in a little apartment.

I then organized my bigger patterns on the fabric to ensure I had enough fabric. I pinned and cut. Then with what was left I cut out the smaller pieces and the strips for piping. (For the piping I just did 1 ½ strips)
I love the look piping gives to a chair. Just helps define the lines and curve of the piece. I feel like the pictures don’t do the colors of this fabric justice. I loved that it was feminine with the big bold flowers, but the colors; green, blue, grey, and yellow were more masculine. I would love to get a solid, textured,  grey pillow, but honestly any pillow I put on that chair just ends up getting in the way. Maybe I’ll just look into getting a warm grey throw blanket, because that is sure to be used.

Photo bomb!
I just loved how it turned out, and it looks so cute next to Peyton's bright green dresser. I did have to bring the hem up on the chair. I'll post another picture in the future of everything completely done.

Have a Great Day!

Sledding

Something I remember doing with my family every year when I was younger was sledding. So I decided this was something Peyton needed to experience. I did not realize how much of a pain dressing a baby in snow clothes was. It made me really appreciate all those times my mom used to dress all of us before going out to the snow to play. It was very cold but fun!

Don't mind me, I obviously did not get ready that day.

Peyton's First Birthday

It's been a while since I've posted anything, mainly because the holiday season gets so crazy for us (as I'm sure is true for everyone). So I'm going to post a little backwards this week starting with the most recent. Confusing I know, but I'm waiting for pictures.
Just as the title states January First was Peyton's birthday. We are so lucky to have family close, because everyone on Blake's side was able to be there. And just my sister and her husband were not able to be there from my side. All in all we had a houseful. (so we had his party at my parents, so we could fit everyone)

Rainbow Cake - This turned out really cool. I think the knife I used was not sharp enough. Not only did it look cool, but everyone said it tasted great too. which surprised me because I used 2 1/2 tubs of icing on it.

For Peyton's personal cake I did a tye dye green and blue cake. I think he loved it, mainly because Blake and I have tried to not give Peyton sugar until he turned a year.

I can't believe my little guy is ONE YEARS OLD. This year really did go by so fast. Here is where Peyton is developmentally. . .
  • Says Mom, Dad, tries to say Grandpa and Grandma, and Aub
  • Takes 10-12 steps, but has not quite figured out how to stand up on his own
  • Eats food really well, as long as he can feed it to himself
  • Is really good at getting into EVERYTHING
  • Dances every time he hears music
Blake and I sure are blessed to have such a wonderful little boy! We have loved him as a part of our family and can't wait to see what the future holds for him!
